(More customer reviews)When my husband and I started looking for crib mattresses while I was pregnant with our twins we had NO idea what to look for. Thankfully, like always I started doing searches on Amazon to read reviews and that is where I learned about not having a mattress that was too soft. After much searching & reading we picked out 3 we liked best, one cheaper than this, one considerably more expensive & this one.

The cheaper mattress was TOO soft & did not have many springs. My husband thought it seemed like a fine mattress to buy UNTIL I was easily able to take my hand and squeeze the sides of the mattress together, top touching bottom. Then I explained to him that once a baby is old enough to stand their weight would crush the mattress just like I did and that is unsafe. Plus babies are supposed to sleep on a firm surface, not soft. After my demonstration my husband understood.

Next we did the same test with this mattress. You could not easily squeeze the sides of the mattress together, even my husband tried. It had a lot more springs than the cheaper one, it was firm but also comfortable. We also liked that it is basically water proof. And the plastic does not make any noise, nor is it loose at all.

We stopped our search there and purchased 2 of these. My girls are almost 1 year and their beds show no signs of wear, no indentations, nothing wrong at all. My girls even hold onto the sides of their crib and jump and the mattress does not sink at all even when they jump at the very edge. My girls sleep all night in these so they must be comfortable.

I don't think you need to spend an arm and a leg in order to get a safe & comfortable mattress. Don't get one so cheap that it is flimsy, doesn't have many springs, that you can easily squeeze the sides together or that the plastic covering is loose. This one is perfect.

It also fits perfectly snug in my girls cribs and every sheet we've used fits perfectly.

(More customer reviews)My husband and I are expecting our first baby any day now and needed a firm mattress for our crib that converts to a toddler bed.I really liked the idea of the 2-in-1 mattress and heard the foam was definitely the way to go for mattresses. I read a ridiculous amount of reviews on different baby sites and ended up adding the Dream On Me to our registry at a baby superstore.Eventually after all of our baby showers, no had purchased it but I checked amazon and found even with coupons, buying the mattress here was a much better deal than the baby superstore.
It is so lightweight, I think it only weighs 8 pounds, and fit perfectly into our convertible crib!The two opposite sides have distinct differences for newborns and toddlers.We don't know if our baby likes it obviously, but the two of us are extremely happy with the quality and price.

Colgate Classica III Foam Crib Mattress, White Review

(More customer reviews)We found a the sister mattress to this one in a store.It had a blue cover and no vent holes...usually for hospitals.We happened to check on-line and found this one.I called the manufacturer and they said that the white covered one was the SAME mattress, but intended for residential (and a little cheaper, but only due to the cover).The cover gets washed almost daily in a hospital and has to be able to hold up to that.

Ok, why this one over other foams?We liked the density, weight, price and vent holes.

Density--It has a high density (very firm) side for newborns and a lower density (little more give...softer) for toddlers.SIDS is a BIG concern these days and a BIG thing we parents can do is put newborns on a FIRM mattress.

Weight--Changing sheets in a crib is necessary to remove the mattress to do so.This is very lightweight and easy to remove.The snug fit in the crib is very necessary so your little one doesn't get a leg/arm caught down beside the mattress.

Price--Compared to an interspring or other foam mattresses, Amazon had the best price on these mattresses.There are only a few select stores that sell them.Also, I called the manufacturer.It is a small Grandfather/father/son business.This is ALL they do and they do it well and VERY resonably priced.You can't get a mattress from them for an adult...they specialize in babys and kids.

Vent Holes--Since I mentioned it I'll expand a bit.Vent holes allow the mattress to breathe (like when they jump on it).Our daughter (almost 2) is starting to jump in the crib when she wakes up and sees us.It's cute and I'm really glad we have those vents.

We are VERY pleased with this mattress AND with Amazon's price for it.I couldn't get it from the manufacturer, BUT I did talk with one of the sons when I called them!This is a VERY good sign of a VERY good business and a quality product.

VERY VERY Happy parents...VERY happy daughter...VERY happy household.

(More customer reviews)If you're thinking of buying this mattress and wonder which mattress pad and sheets fit, I've found that the American Baby Company waterproof crib pad (sold on Amazon for $[...]) fits great.As for sheets, I purchased Koala Baby portable crib sheets at Babies R Us (online; the store selection was pretty limited), and they also fit very well ($[...]).I was concerned that portable crib sheets might be designed for thinner mattresses, but luckily I was mistaken!
